Note from Mom - fn

I'm on the phone with Mom.  Her e-mail is not cooperating so she can't send anything to any of you.

The weather has been really hot for a while, but this week it is more moderate.  Actually we have had several perfect days.  She hasn't felt well this week.  Doesn't know what caused her to not feel well, but she has had some bites on her arms and ankles and feet that have been itching badly.  The itching is past now but she doesn't want to have to go through that again.  She can't think of what it might have been.  Because of that, she hasn't been out for 3 days.  She's not sure if she will feel like getting out today or not.  The weather looks real nice.  She'll probably try to at least get the mail.

Not much else to say.  I said she had a boring week and she said she didn't feel well enough to be bored.

To Jackie - fn

Jackie, here is what I think would work best for your newell post.
I'm picturing it painted white to match the trim and risers.

These others, I thought, were just too wimpy

My Birthday - fn

My birthday present - a new roof

May not seem very glamorous - but I am very thankful that it won't leak any more.

Joyce's Birthday - fn

I went to visit Joyce (a friend from church) last night for her birthday.  I think she was 84.  We had a nice visit.

Things here are work are still crazy with this new software.

One week until M comes to visit.

From Wilma - fn

Wilma is not "live" yet.  She sent me an e-mail this morning with this picture.

She had to tear the stone off this front section of her house last year because of a leak.  Darin and Sam are getting the stone put back on and it looks beautiful!

She is very busy at work as is her normal life now.

Going Crazy with Pictures - fn

I know my brothers never thought they would hear me say I was longing to retire to a farm - but here I am.  I going to post some random pictures from the summer.

This is the farm the beginning of May

A&R's family and Josh's family were able to cross paths at our house.

The portable chicken pen we made out of PVC pipe.
Looks like he got an extra chicken in there.
These are the ones that ended up in the freezer.

We didn't take a picture of the whole group when we got together on Father's Day, but here is part of the group.

The chicken coop we built.  Not finished yet.
Looking at it from the back side where you will gather the eggs.
The metal frame you are seeing in the picture is from our shade canopy we had put up while they were working.  It was hot!  The canopy was off before I took this picture.

Josh and Rachelle making salsa
(although obviously Rachelle was not present at this precise moment.)

Contentment !!!

A note from Mom - fn

I'm on the phone with Mom.  She went to Helen's house Wednesday afteroon with Margaret & Janet to paly Rummikub.  It's been really hot  and today it is foggy and warm.  The College is gearing up so there are new people moving in to the apartment complex where she lives.  Two coaches and one custodian.  She hates air-conditioning, but it was so hot that Daryl came down and took the cover off her AC unit.

Watermelon Days was last weekend, but it was too hot to do all the activities.  Mom, Helen, Margaret and Lorraine Sieck went together.  They watched the parade and then went to the Lutheran Church for lunch.  It was too hot to do anything else.

A Wonderful Weekend with the Grandchildren - fn

We spent a wonderful weekend at the farm.  Charley & Jackie were gone to Colorado to a friend's wedding and we took care of J and the chores.  Josh and Rachelle and K came also.

The cousins played pretty well.  K is so easy-going.

Josh and Rachelle picked veggies from the garden.

They made salsa

They made more than this, but I didn't get a picture.

Going to stop now so I can see if I can figure out how to post this.

Still learning

Still learning on how to use blogger so I thought I'd show you what else I am learning. Quilt as you go. QAYG.

Well, I have the pictures here but not really where I want them and the text isn't going where I want it. I'll get it. Just be patient. I'm learning by trial and error so hopefully I will be able to tell you and you won't have to go through this. Let's just hope no one else follows until we have it all figured out.

Anyway, here are pictures of a couple quilts I was experimenting with. The totally scrappy one is literally from the scrap bin. La is using it as a soccer quilt for them to put on the ground.

The yellow one was planned for something else that didn't work so I finished it up trying this new to me technique.

Learning

I am experimenting on how we can determine who write the post.

I was hoping it would say which one of us posted without putting our name or initial.

Hmmm Looks like I have more to learn

Let the bragging begin

I made a dress for L before they left hoping it would be too big so I tried it on Gooner to check the size.  BIG mistake.  Gooner loved it so of course Grandma had to make another one.  She is a girly girl.

Since I'm bragging I may as well keep going.  We took some family pictures while they were all here.  We have some of them on the wall.  Gooner points to the pictures and I tell her everyone's names.  Yesterday she was looking at my cell phone pictures and when I said their names she pointed to the pictures on the wall.

Welcome

We are sisters from an Iowa farm wanting to share our lives and memories with each other.  This will be a learning experience for all of us as we go along.  We will each be sharing stories about our grandchildren, quilting, gardening, frustrations and anything else we so choose.

Some names will be changed to protect the innocent.

Come join us in our stroll down memory lane and our walk through daily life.
